Hi everyone.

I hope you can help me to make two changes in the login screen I don't know enough about Linux to know if those are hard or not, though.

1 - Whatever picture I choose for my account, on the login screen it is represented by Epicurus' face; well, I want to see there the image I chose on Settings.

2 - I want to change the login screen itself, its background and theme. Is it possible?

Can you please advise me?

Thank you!

This pertains to UberStudent 3.0 but you can see if this will help:

"The UberStudsent Login Screen: The program that manages login in UberStudent is mdm. The themes for it are mdm themes. Go to Applications menu > System > Look and Feel > Login Window and change the theme to whatever you like."

If this does not work in 4.1 then post again and I am sure someone will help you.

Hi, James Zerr.

Thank you for your answer, but that option is not present on Uberstudent 4.1; of course, it's possible something have eluded me, but I did try every single option there; except for options regarding composition, the Uberstudent desktop logo and accessibility, all the others are also present on the Settings windows, and I explored it before posting.

But thank you very much for taking your time to comment here.

Regards,

Rafael

Hi Rafael.

James is correct but there is a difference in this behavior between 3.0 and 4.0. I made it more difficult to theme mdm because I felt a lot of mdm themes could produce instability. But having been
warned of that, here's what you need to do to have mdm themes persist.

Open a terminal and run the following line:

Code:
sudo chmod -x /etc/uberstudent/adjustments/150-uberstudent-mdm-theme.execute

And then use the mdm theme manager to change the theme.

Can you theme mdm now?

I second the cannot change the user picture thing, how do we change that? I have my user picture in "About Me" and in "Users and Groups", but every time I encounter the login screen I get the "nobody" image. How do I get it to show my user picture?

Thanks a lot in advance

Take an avatar of yourself that is 100x100 pixels and that is in the PNG file format and place it in your home folder with only the file name .face

Now your face will show at the MDM login screen. This can be done for any number of users. :geek:

Check permissions on the image. Then reboot.

If permissions are fine, are you using UberStudent's default mdm login theme? Are you in UberStudent 4.1?

Congrats on entering the Ph.D. program, by the way! I'm really happy for you. :D

Thank you very much for both your help and your wishes Mr. Ewen :D What can I say, I have been powered by UberStudent since Aristotle, some may have trouble but I have the best tools to become a PhD student :ugeek: 8-)

thank you very much for this wonderful companion :)

Still, I'm using the default Uberstudent HTML login theme (the other ones don't even show the nobody picture) and I made the .face file permissions 666(swh) and restarted, but still I get nothing :(
