Hello everyone,

Just to clear one thing up right off the bat, my nickname (uberotter) has _nothing_ to do with UberStudent OS. It's a handle I've been using for a while and I prefer to keep on using it.

Anyway, I've been having trouble downloading UberStudent. I've tried from various PCs with various OSs from various locations (probably 6-8 attempts overall) and I've yet to complete a full download. The most I've got so far is 1.5G. Unfortunately, I've never been at the PC when the download has died so I don't know what's been happening. Is there possibly an issue on your end?

It seems that Plato (2.10-1-desktop-i386.iso) is the most current release - is that right? Are the different versions that are listed here http://sourceforge.net/projects/uberstu ... Aristotle/ in the process of being built for Plato?

On another topic, just as an FYI, I work in the IT dept at a community college in PA, and I've been toying with a project to set up some PCs with Linux in the library for the students to use and see what a great OS Linux is. I have to cut some more red tape with the higher-ups, but it's looking like it's a go. I definitely want to give UberStudent a shot for this (even though I'm not thrilled with the Ubuntu base, I'd prefer straight Debian), looks like a very nice fit. No doubt I'll have a myriad of questions and be seeking advice, but that's for another post ...

cheers
mark

This may sound like a silly suggestion, but have you tried md5ing your os? I've installed it multiple times on multiple computers with no problem! I'll give it a go with yours to see how it goes, but, I havn't had a problem as of yet.
A quick suggestion though, try it in a virtual machine. If you can't get it to work, either the new ISO doesn't work, or the cd/iso you have is corrupt. Can you get into live cd?

You seem to be missing my point. It's not that I'm having trouble _installing_ UberStudent, it's that I can't _get_ it from the Sourceforge page. The download dies every time. An MD5 check won't help me at all.

I've tried it from my work and my house and it just won't download the whole thing.

Interestingly, I have downloaded the Lightweight Edition from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/uberstu ... Aristotle/. While my system reports it at 662M
Code:
mark@x230:/storage/Distros$ ls -lh uberstudent-2.0-lxde-i386.iso
-rw-r--r-- 1 mark mark 662M Apr 15 16:48 uberstudent-2.0-lxde-i386.iso

the download page lists it as 694M, it does run as a LiveCD and even installs.

Wonder if I could just change /etc/apt/sources.list to point to the "full" version repos and update it like that .... hmmm.

I'm attempting another download right now from my job.

cheers

Whoops! I'm sorry about that. Now I understand what's going on. I am currently downloading it right now to see if there are any problems. I do have a spare copy on my hard drive if you'd like for me to send it to you someway. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please let me know.
In the mean time I'll keep downloading, and see what happens

Good luck!

I'm starting to see the problem... I just tried, and i got about 250mb. I'm trying again. I do have the full iso if you want it though, just let me know how you'd like to have it

Hi uberotter,

Some quick questions:
1) What are you triying to download the .iso with? Download managers like DownThemAll! for Firefox never failed for me. Often it resumes downloads even after disconnects.
2) Does the download stop at the same .iso size each time?

I've just been using the download manager in whatever browser I'm using, usually FF, sometimes Chrome. I had a download still actively running at 1.1G when I left work a little while ago. I'll give DownThemAll! a spin when I get home from school later.

Nope. I've got as little as ~200M to as much as 1.5G before it just dies off.

Finally got the iso downloaded. I used the network where I attend school (not the same as the school where I work ;)). Odd, though, I've never had problems downloading large files from either home or work before.

All's well that ends well!

cheers
