Post subject:  Requests

Since this board is completely unused, I thought I'd try something out. If anyone has any ideas of a tutorial they would like for me to make, I'll gladly make it :-) Feel free to make it about anything, mainly computer topics, and I'll see what I can do. If you have any questions, script requests, or something you'd simply like to learn about, I'll gladly do what I can. This can even be as simple as "What is linux" to as complex as "Building your own kernel" to requests like "Making a script to remove apt cache and old kernels, or an extract alias to extract anything you may have, without having to remember commands like tar xf, or tar xjvf or unzip etc." or something like "How to use the terminal"

Let me know what you guys want!

Could you make a tutorial on how to set up play on linux and wine to automatically run when a user has a .exe file? I am just throwing out a suggestion as I am still pretty new to linux.

I would very much like a how-to to install programs from source (.tar.gz. and .tar.gz2).
I know it is done by typing
./configure && make && make install
but I tried it several times back than and couldn't get the ./configure process to finish because of dependency hell. I was never able to find every required dependency in the repos, so the option was to install them from source... Well... :-)

It would be so nice if we could build a meta package to install a bundle of all necessary packages to install software from source code. There is no list of the packages on the internet.

Anyway, thanks for the thread Mark :-)

I suggest a guided "getting started" tour video pointing out some of uber's unique features, suggesting they click on the "install codecs" button, explaining synaptic and suggesting they update the repositories, etc.

Could be web based or on disk. your call.
