I moved your forum post to the Hardware section so it has a better fit.
Your hardware enjoyed only very limited distribution, so it probably lacks support in the Linux kernel, where drivers in Linux are normally held.
Here are two things you can try to get it going:
a. Hit Alt+F2 on your keyboard and type in the following:
gksu leafpad /etc/modules
Add these two lines at the bottom:
Make sure there is an empty line after option. The whole file should look like this:
# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.
# This file contains the names of kernel modules that should be loaded
# at boot time, one per line. Lines beginning with "#" are ignored.
# Parameters can be specified after the module name.
b. Save the file (hit Ctrl+S on your keyboard to use the shortcut) and reboot
If it is supported in the Linux kernel, this should force the matter and your modem will work.
a. Try these directions: http://micromax-mmx-310g.blogspot.co.uk/
If anything is unclear in those directions, ask me and I'll walk you through them.
