Post subject:  Broadcom BCM43xx Wifi in 2.10

Wireless Card: Broadcom BCM4312 LP-PHY
OS: UberStudent 2.10 32-bit (Linux kernel 3.5.0-23.35)

Packages installed via Synaptic (in semi-chronological order) to get BCM4312 wifi card to work:
linux-headers-3.5.0-23
linux-headers-3.5.0-23-generic
dkms
bcmwl-kernel-source
b43-fwcutter
firmware-b43-lpphy-installer

It took a lot of trial-and-error to get the old BCM4312 wireless card to work in UberStudent 2.10, and I do not recall precise steps, so this is less a tutorial and more a brain-dump of information that should help to shorten your troubleshooting if you are also having an issue with an old Broadcom 43xx series wireless card.

To determine which of the three firmware-b43*-installer packages to install, hit F12 to open terminal, then type lspci to list devices; in that list I saw "Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY", so I knew that I had to use the firmware-b43-lpphy-installer.
