Post subject:  Should I buy this laptop for UberStudent

Hi community!

I hope someone here is kind enough to share their expertise with me. I've read through other similar topics on this forum, but I haven't found a solution to my problem.
I'm looking for a laptop that's small, light, cheap and works well with UberStudent. I doesn't need to have a lot of processing power as I have a desktop computer that will do all of the heavy lifting. I just need it for browsing, note taking and to read pdfs.

I was thinking about buying a Asus F205TA-FD0063TS. The specs are as follows:

Brand ASUS Computer
Series EeeBook
Item Weight 998 g
Product Dimensions 28.6 x 19.3 x 1.8 cm
Item model number F205TA-FD0063TS
Screen Size 11.6 inches
Screen Resolution 1366 x 768 Pixel
Processor Brand Intel
Processor Type Atom
Processor Speed 1.4 GHz
Processor Socket BGA592
Processor Count 4
RAM Size 2 GB
Memory Technology DDR3L-SDRAM
Maximum Memory Supported 2 GB
Hard Drive Size 32 GB
Hard Disk Description SSD
Graphics Chipset Brand Intel ®
Graphics Card Description Intel HD
Connectivity Type Ja
Wireless Type 802.11A, 802.11G, 802.11 A/C, 802.11B, 802.11n
Number of USB 2.0 Ports 2
Voltage 19 volts
Optical Drive Type nein
Operating System Windows 10 Home
Battery Description Polymer
Lithium Battery Energy Content 33 Watt Hours
Lithium Battery Weight 100 Grams

Is this a good idea?

I'm a total noob when it comes to both Linux and hardware issues.

Any input is welcome!

Lottie

The current version of UberStudent (4.1) is based on Xubuntu/Ubuntu 14.04. While Ubuntu.com does not officially certify any Asus notebooks, LinuxNow.com.au offers Ubuntu 14.04 on an Asus X205TA-FD015BS notebook, which is close to but not identical to your model. If you need absolute certainty though that a purchased computer is 100% compatible with Linux, consider purchasing a notebook from a Linux-friendly vender.

No! No! Not if you are beginner to Linux!

Here's the problem explained.

Here's what you'd have to do to get it to work - without audio and probably no wireless support.

If you're looking to buy a used netbook or laptop, anything here will work without issue.

Thanks for the input!

I have an old Dell Latitude lying around. I will check whether it's compatible and if so, I'll install UberStudent on it.
