I don't do much programming to speak of so this was an adventure for me.

A long time ago I recompiled a linux kernel with an optimizing compiler on my hardware, then recompiled a virtualization suite on that kernel, then recompiled a guest kernel from inside the virtualization. Along the way I read a little on kernel and program performance optimization, looked at what was done in performance enhanced distros and made some good guess on switches. What I got was near native performance out of the guest. It was maybe 10 percent slower as opposed to the usual 2 to 10 times slower.

If I were to set up remote access for you how much cash would you want to do all that for me and also make a screen capture video of you doing it? I could probably plug through it but I bet you can do it a lot faster than I would. This was prior to cpu hardware virtualization support. (pentium days).

Alternately, if I were to try to do it again would you like to participate and maybe add my insights to uber?

I've never compiled a kernel. I just use the generic ones. So I don't have any experience doing that. :geek:
