Hi everyone,
UberStudent is one of the fastest linux distribution. Not to mention that it is very stable and in my opinion is maybe the best with just one exception. The default theme can be much better. It is too dark in my opinion ( I know that we can customize it but....) . If Uberstudent can be by default with another theme it would be priceless. For example the theme form Ubuntu 10.4..... I have install UberStudent on many machines and most of the users will complain about the default theme arguing that is too dark and because of that want to switch to another distribution. So, I was wondering if it is possible for the next releases to come with a different default theme or as an alternative the theme form Ubuntu 10.4.

Most users will be more productive with the default UberStudent theme, precisely because it is designed with the mind in mind. This is to say that light on dark (with select RGB, such as the grabber and window manager buttons) was not first a design decision but a productivity decision, (see this example of the body of research on the topic of interface design and user productivity). Users need to have that explained to them and be encouraged to stick with the default theme for a little while and they'll usually come to the same conclusion themselves.

Otherwise there are dozens of theme options preinstalled in Settings > Appearance > Style, there are hundreds more here, and the specific theme you mentioned is available by simply searching for human-theme and gnome-human-icon-theme using the Ubuntu Software Center or Synaptic Package Manager, installing them, and then enabling them per the above directions. :geek:

All of that said, part of the fun of Linux is that you are not limited to how something might look when you first install it, or how developers (like me) think a desktop is generically smartest based upon their best understanding of the available research; e.g., here's one user's tweaks of his UberStudent desktop:
