Yes, try using Firefox. Midori sometimes had some stability issues on my machines. The golden rule is to use what works best for you :)

I am assuming you have an old PC (given the fact your PC has a floppy drive you wrote in another topic)? So it would be great to avoid using heavy programs like Firefox or Chrome.

Which version of Midori are you using? The newest avilable in UberStudent 2 is 0.4.3 and it is working fine for me with GMail.

Also update your whole system by typing in your terminal:
Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

Yes, what you have experienced is called a "crash" --and Midori is notorious for crashing. I have had experiences with Midori crashing in the past, and recently, as well.

I've been playing with Sabayon 11, perhaps because I always seem to be tinkering with something, and the default browser in the Mate edition is, Midori. And yes, several times, it crashed.

There are many, many small browser projects out there, and some of them work decently, but I always trust Firefox when I need certainty.

So, I agree with David: plus 1 for Firefox.

And update. ;)

AND I think this is in the wrong place. It should be in Applications or Hardware, the same with the Floppy thread.

That's the machine I had the problems with Flash, too BTW: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+ 1,9 GHz, 993 MB RAM.
So we have basically the same machines. On that computer Flash never played well for me (neither with GNU/Linux or Windows XP).

For the GMail problem, it could crash at the moment when your PC begins to swap files loaded into the memory to the hard drive.
1) In the terminal type
Code:
cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness

This command gives a value that corresponds to the percentage of the allowed memory left before your PC begins to write on the hard drive. The default value is 60. It means when 60% of your 734 Mb of memory is left (or 40% is used), the system loads some running programs on the hard drive.

2) If the output is higher than 10, type
Code:
echo vm.swappiness=10 | sudo tee -a /etc/sysctl.conf

This will change the value to 10%. Your PC memory won't swap until 90% of the memory is used.

3) Then type
Code:
sudo swapoff -a
and wait for the pocess to finish
This command loads everything that has "swaped" on the hard drive to the memory. If it says there is not enough space in your meory to swap off, finish your work and reboot your PC and skip step 4)

4) Type
Code:
sudo swapon -a

This will reactivate the swap space on your hard drive which will now be used when 90% of your memory is used.

The reason why I give this little tutorial is that even if the swapping does not cause crashing midori, it is still very useful to change the swappiness value to 5 to 15, especially since you don't have a powerful machine.
Try GMail after rebooting your PC. Did it help :) ?
