I am not sure if the problem is related to UberStudent or to Lyx, but I wanted to ask here first before posting question on Lyx forum.

I am chemist, and I am using LaTeX package mhchem for writing chemical equations. It is working fine with LaTeX, for example in TexMaker that I have unstalled under UberStudent. However, in Lyx mhchem does not format formulas at all: no superscripts, no subscripts, no arrows etc.

For example, \ce{H2O -> H2 + 1/2 O2} normally should give me nicely formatted equation of water decomposition. In Lyx that I have it returns the text between parenthesis unformatted.

Thanks for any hints or help!

Please see the section for Chemistry > here < that shows a little workaround for getting mhchem to work with LyX. Other than that, it would probably be a good idea to take the issue up on the LyX forums to garner support for a full-on feature request. LyX in UberStudent is just normal LyX configured to work with Zotero out of the box using the LyZ extension, so this is not at all an UberStudent issue.

Thank you, Stephen,

After consulting LyX forums, the problem was solved: I was using wrong syntaxes.

In fact, I started to use Lyx only because it is installed in UnderStudent, and I thought to give it a try. I was always using LaTeX before. But Lyx seems to be a very comfortable text processing environment.

So this must mean that what I read on the matter was a bit out-of-date. Apparently, current LyX does support mhchem. :)

Glad this is working out for you. :geek:
