Hello!

I am trying to use zotero to manage citations in documents written on LyX, but I cannot export them from Zotero. When I try, this error message occurs: SERVER ERROR:
[Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520001 (NS_ERROR_FILE_UNRECOGNIZED_PATH) [nsILocalFile.initWithPath]" nsresult: "0x80520001 (NS_ERROR_FILE_UNRECOGNIZED_PATH)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://lyz/content/lyz.js :: Zotero.Lyz.lyxPipeInit :: line 109" data: no]. And then two more messages occur sequentially, "Could not contact server at: \\.\pipe\lyxpipe" and then "Could not retrieve document name." Can anyone offer any advice? Thank you!

Alanna

If you go to Applications menu > Education > Research and Writing > Documentation > Zotero and LyX, and click it, you'll open LyX's complete documentation. It includes,

Quote:
2. Open LyX and set LyXServer path (in LyX go to menu, Tools > Preferences... > Paths and set LyXServer pipe to): Windows users can use the default path setting in LyZ, i.e. `\\.\pipe\lyxpipe`. Linux and Mac users can use e.g. `~/.lyxpipe` and change the LyZ settings accordingly.

You should read the complete documentation there to know how to use LyX and Zotero together. :geek:

Hey, thanks for that, it was helpful. I tried to change the server path in LyX so now it is "/home/alannawass/.lyxpipe" and changed the LyZ settings accordingly, but there is still an error that says the server path does not exist. I made sure the setting in Lyz matched LyX server path exactly. I tried /.lyx/ and /.lyxpipe/ which is specified in the documentation. Thank you again!

Please take the following step by step.

1. Open LyX and go to Tools > Preferences > Paths and set LyXServer pipe to ~/.lyxpipe
2. In LyX, go to Tools > Reconfigure and let the dialog run.
3. Exit LyX, restart it, and then go to File > New to create a new document.
4. Open Zotero and click the drop-down arrow for LyZ, as shown, to access its menu.

5. Go to Settings within the LyZ menu.
6. Under Lyx Server place ~/.lyxpipe, then click OK.
7. In Zotero, right-click over a reference and choose Cite in LyX.
8. In the dialog that opens, press OK to create a new BibTeX database, and in the Save dialog that follows give the database a name and save it somewhere, ideally to the same place and with the same name of the LyX document you will be wrirting.
9. Go back to LyX and see the citation that was placed.

In the near future, I'll try to create a wiki page, and in an update use it to replace the current LyX with Zotero documentation--which, admittedly, is not particularly clear--or if you're so inclined, I could give you access to the wiki and you can make the page. For the time being, this document should be helpful to you for further reference. :geek:

As well, based on your issue, I've release a new package of LyZ that forces the seeding of the the proper Linux path by default, and a new package of lyx-meta-uberstudent-en-us that adds to the mix a launcher script I made this evening. So LyX, LyZ, and Zotero should together "just work" from now on without anyone having to configure anything at all. I've in the past addressed this for LibreOffice and Zotero so no one has to configure anything in UberStudent. Now the same is the case for LyX and Zotero.
