I just installed and I wanted /var/cache to be on another partition. I tried moving it using "sudo cp" and was going to link it back to its proper location but it came back with "cp: omitting directory 'var/cache'"

You may be curious. My reason for doing this is that I installed to a spare 10gb partition toward the front of the disk and have a large storage partition at the end of the disk. This makes doing whole partition backups on my os easy. Te catch is I don't want to resize the storage partition and risk loosing everything and I want to install some large programs to uber. There is room to install them, but not to also have the downloaded files on there at the same time.

Your rationale make fine sense. :geek:

It's important you use the -r switch with cp in this case. You should be able to just cp -r /var/cache /new/destination and then delete /var/cache and recreate /var/cache as a symlink to /external/location/var/cache This external link explains doing so with the mv command.
