Julius have you looked at these two links:

http://superuser.com/questions/336378/h ... eveloper-p

Both discuss "Enable Virtualisation in the BIOS" settings of your computer. I have only read these links. I have not tried this as I do not have win 8 plus I have not tried to install a windows guest on a linux host. Maybe someone else can help who knows more than I do.

Also the virtualbox manual can be found here:

Good luck! James

Yes U.S. would make a good host. Its lightweight but fill featured.
Partition your laptop. 2 to 10gb swap (extra swap is nice when doing VMs and it does not hurt if you have a newer machine with a big drive), 20-50gb linux, the rest for storing vm images, isos, etc. Be sure to go into bios and make sure any virtualization features are enabled. Consider making the large partition formated with a de-duplicating filesystem (google it) It will save you a lot of space when keeping multiple linux isos and multiple vm images on the drive. Use ext3 for your main linux partition.

Qemu with kvm is fastest. Use Aqemu - its a gui configurator for qemu.
When you set it up anytime there is a configuration option that says "kvm64" pick that one (cpu emulator etc). (assuming you are running 64 bit, otherwise kvm 32) The KVM cpu will always be as good or better than the option for your real cpu. For best results run windows 8 version that is the same 32/64 as your physical cpu. When setting up virtual hard disks turn on threads and writethrough. If you have problems and can't get qemu to work right skip virtual box because you will likely have the same problems. In that event download a free copy of VMWare player.

Once you get windows 8 installed to the vm save a copy of the virtual hard disk and make another after getting all your apps installed.
