I just want to begin this by saying that I don't imagine myself to be a 'computer person' but I am somewhat mechanically inclined and I can follow directions pretty well - I've always been able to get myself out of hot water when it comes to my computer. This announcement is just so that whoever looks at this knows that I have no idea what I'm doing, really - and anything not Windows is an unknown.
I want to install on both my PC and laptop, but I'm working with my PC first because I know it better.
My computer is a Compaq CQ5700F with Windows 7 Home Premium 2009 64 bit; AMD Athlon II x4 645 Processor; and 8 GB RAM.
I just did a clean install of Windows for the first time since I bought it. It's moving at the pace of a turtle instead of a snail now. YAY!
I downloaded uberstudent-3.0-xfce-amd64.iso.
I verified with with WinMD5Free.
I burned to a 4.7 GB DVD with Free ISO Burner.
I then restarted the computer. Uberstudent did not automatically boot so I pressed ESC - as far as I can tell that is the option for choosing where to boot from on my computer. The screen went black with a white flashing underscore in the upper left hand corner. After a minute or two the computer booted into Windows safe mode and gave me the system restore options. So, I restarted again thinking I pressed the wrong button. Nope - Esc it is. So I did it again, had the black screen again, and this time it didn't go into system restore it just booted straight into Windows.
I Googled the issue and I found information on UEFI vs BIOS. So, I followed these directions
http://kb.parallels.com/en/115815 and I see Detected boot environment: BIOS, so that's not the problem.
I'm not sure what to do from here.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
