My computer is old and uses nvidia 96. I am presently running ubuntu 10.04 and had to enable proprietary/non-free drivers. How do I do this in uberstudent lxde (2013)? When I boot to live desktop I cannot even See my mouse arrow. Any help much appreciated.

Does a command line login screen even show up? I talk about something similar to this (image below):
If the boot process succeeds but your video driver fails to load, this would normally show up.
If you got a complete black screen, push CTRL+ALT+F1.
Login as "uberstudent" and just type enter when the password is asked for.
Then type "sudo apt-get install nvidia-96"
Could you post the outcome please? What is your graphic card btw?
Hope this helps
