Post subject:  Hello

Hi guys. Having my first look at UberStudent and loving it. I became aware of it from a friend who has had it installed on her laptop and has asked me for help in understanding it. I have downloaded uberstudent-3.0-xfce-i386.iso and run it on my machine as a Live USB. I came to Linux about 2 years ago and found that it was a system in which I could actually learn something and immediately adopted it. I am currently running Ubuntu 12.04 but will also run UberStudent as it seems to have so much more to help with learning.

I do have a question though. Once I have the system running, how do I identify which version I am running? In my own case I know but I need to identify which version my friend (who lives a long way from me so this will be done by phone) so that I can run the same version and guide her to usage. The desktop doesn't seem to show what version as Ubuntu does. Is there a simple way of doing this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there and welcome! :)

After you install UberStudent 3.0, it will self-identify in three ways. See the first three images here.

You can also open a terminal (just hit F12 on your keyboard in UberStudent) and run the following command:

Code:
lsb_release -irc

That works from the Live disc, too, as well as versions prior 3.0.

In version 4.0, I plan on including a tiny program, "About," that will identify the version and so forth.

Excellent! Thank you so much. This is a great system!
