There would be good to know, which UberStudent version based on which Debian and/or Ubuntu version... E.g. Ubuntu LTS would be suitable for academical areas due to its more stable state. This information would be also directly on UberStudent's web page - I guess this would interests also other people...

Hi Mr. Laugasson,

Ubuntu releases are based on Debian sid/unstable snapshots which are modified by Ubuntu.
The UberStudent 2.x.y are based on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
Actually, I think UberStudent is based on Linux Mint, or Peppermint OS for the UberStudent Lightweight Editions, which are also based on Ubuntu. But I'm not sure if Mr. Ewen integrates everything from Linux Mint/Peppermint OS :?:
UberStudent 3 (currently UberStudent 2.10 Preview) is based on Ubuntu 12.10 non-LTS.

As for the difference of stability between LTS and non-LTS, there are different opinions. I myself did never notice an improvement of LTS over non-LTS. But other people might say there is.
And in UberStudent 3, it looks like a bunch of things have been corrected or improved :-). I will test 2.10-1 tomorrow.

Lightweight uses Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. The Peppermint repo is there only because the Lightweight Edition uses the Peppermint build of Dropbox. I also forked, fixed, and expanded the Peppermint program, ICE, to make App2Menu.

For the other builds, i.e. MATE and Xfce, don't you integrate some programs from upstream as well, Stephen?

I think only Mint Menu, which is installed but not used by default.

In UberStudent 3.0, the Update Manager, Welcome Screen, Proprietary Driver Installer, and a few minor things, are forked from Mint.

The Lightweight Edition of UberStudent 2.0 (the latest) has a menu item maker I forked from Peppermint.
