I apologize if this has been addressed.. I've looked in the boards and could not find it..
I am decent with computers but new to the Linux community.

I have a Lenovo Yoga 3, and can not get the wifi working.
on Ubuntu I can tether internet to my phone, and update my proprietary drivers through the software sources, under additional drivers. This doesn't seem to be working for me on uberstudent.

Uberstudent really seems to be like a great build, and much more suited to my needs... but without internet capabilities I find myself unable / unwilling to really use it much..

Thanks for your help!

UberStudent uses a different driver manager. To use it go to Applications menu > System > Software > Driver Manager and run it. Install what it recommends to you and then reboot.

Does your wireless work now?

no.. it's not asking me to download or install anything. it shows that there's the driver there. but when I click it and hit apply changes, it reverts back to before I clicked it.
(to ensure i was online while trying this I am currently on uberstudent tethered through my phone right now)

What is it offering to install? You can just take a screenshot and post it.

That's the issue, maybe I worded it poorly.. it's not offering to install anything. It just unchecks the driver that I want.
Btw thank you for trying to help me so much.

I see the issue now. You need to update the kernel, which has support for your card. Please hit F12 on your keyboard to open a terminal and run the following line:
sudo apt-get install linux-signed-image-generic-lts-wily linux-headers-generic-lts-wily bcmwl-kernel-source
Then, reboot and when you boot choose advanced options from the boot menu and boot into the kernel with the highest release number.

Does that fix the issue?

If not, please run this line in a terminal and reboot:
sudo modprobe -r ideapad_laptop
Does that fix the issue?

Post subject:  Re: Wifi

Unfortunately it didn't... it wasn't able to find the first or second packet you listed in the command line..
it did grab the bcmwl...
I thought I might have typed in the other ones incorrectly, so tried copy and paste and it still couldn't find them. also.... on my live USB drive, when i boot from it I am not given the advanced options, option.
or do I need to have it actually installed? (I'm trying not to install it unless I like it.)

May I suggest that you run Uberstudent in Virtual Box, There you can test it. It will not run as fast but you will be able to use all of its functions.

You cannot install an updated kernel on the live system!
